Table of Contents

All HS&E tests consist of 50 multiple choice questions. There are 50 core knowledge-based questions to check knowledge of health, safety, environmentally safe working practices and sustainability. For specialist tests, the 50 multiple choice knowledge questions consist of 44 core questions and six questions on the specific specialism (such as supervisory, tunnelling etc.). HS&E test for Managers and Professionals (MAP) consists of 50 core questions, including on the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations, demolition, plumbing or gas and highway works. The time allowed for each test is 45 minutes.

The cost of taking the HS&E test is £22.50. We charge £50 to cover administrative costs.

Test Day Procedures

  • What should I expect on the day of my test?

    Come 15 minutes before your test time. Come with your ID.
